For both Belfast summer schemes and Ballymena summer schemes we try to pack in as much variety into what we do and trips is an important part of this. Currently we take camps on trips to Carnfunnock Country Park, Delamont Country Park and run Sports Fun Days at Osborne Park. Each trips offers a range of exciting and challenging opportunities for the children and we run all of our trips as an included package with our schemes.
Carnfunnock has lots to keep kids busy – several good play grounds, miniature railway, bouncy castle and some excellent trails. A great destination for a day out.
The adventure playground is extensive with a huge play frame with tunnel slides, zipwire, pirate ship, swings and much more. Next to this is another play area with giant lego, jenga, giant connect 4 etc.
The Maze, also located here, is based on the winning idea from a 1985 Design a Maze competition: a hedge maze in the shape of Northern Ireland. It has numerous paths and dead ends with seven central spaces, one for each county and one for Lough Neagh. Each group have the opportunity to explore!
We also travel to Delamont Country Park which has stunning views across the Lough to the Mourne Mountains. There are open areas for picnics and games. There is a fantastic outdoor adventure playground. There are three orienteering courses and many trails where the children have the opportunity to explore. It’s an excellent country park with the adventure playground to suit every age group. There’s also a little steam train ride.
Our Sports Fun Days at Osborne Park are always a great success and we’ve added athletics to the vast array of sports in the programme. It’s also an opportunity to face paint and run some nature trails for the younger children.
We’ve also taken the Ballymena summer schemes for an afternoon trip to the Cinema / Pool which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
